Artist Statement: Michael Gamble
The watercolor illustrations entitled "Sea Creatures of the Caribbean" are inspired by fishing adventures, natural beauty and early scientific ordering systems dating back to Karl Linneaus' Systema Naturae, a novel classification system for all living things: flora, fauna and paradoxia; and Sir William Jardines field drawings of animals from the early 1800's. Additional inspiration is based on a desire to keep hand to eye observation, analog color theory and hand drawing relevant in an increasingly digital age.
